Behind The Scenes: CBF Distribution Committee Meeting
Every year, the CBF Distribution Committee meets to review scholarship applications for the coming academic year. The process begins with narrowing down the selections based on the criteria set forth by the donor of the funds, until a full list of recipients has been established. On April 20th, 2017 the CBF Distribution committee met to do just that.
CBF board members Sylvia Hammond, Tom Overcast, Mary Frederick, and Huc Dilling (pictured above) were joined by Ephrata High School counselor Rhonda Hagy. They reviewed 469 applications from students representing schools from Almira-Coulee-Hartline, Connell, Curlew, Ephrata, Lind-Ritzville, Moses Lake, Othello, Quincy, Soap Lake, and four regional scholarships. The final list of recipients will be reviewed and approved by the full CBF board on May 10th and letters notifying the high schools of the recipients with follow on May 11th. Only successful recipients will be notified, either at their graduation/awards ceremonies or by email if they are current college students.
Columbia Basin Foundation will award nearly $120,000 in scholarships for the 2017/2018 academic year. We love seeing this number grow over the years due to the efforts of our generous donors.
Important information for all scholarship recipients:
Paperwork will be included in an envelope inside the certificate folder presented to each recipient requesting information on where they will be attending college, etc. That paperwork MUST be returned to the foundation office by mid to late June to ensure the scholarship money makes it to the right colleges and/or universities in the Fall.
Scholarship awards will be mailed directly to the college, university or technical school by late July.
